Well I managed to miss a week of Goblin Slayer somehow, so here I am desperately playing catch-up before the new year. That said, this actually kind of worked out in my favor, as these episodes fit beautifully together as parts 1 and 2 of the final story arc of the season. So maybe things actually worked out in my favor here?

Let’s start with Episode 11. Finding dozens of Goblin tracks near the farm where he lives, Goblin Slayer pleads with his old friend to leave, to run to safety, but she refuses. In desperation, he goes to ask for help at the adventurer’s guild, faced for the first time in a long while with the prospect… he can’t kill all these goblins… and they WILL take someone dear to him again if he doesn’t stop them.

For the first time in the series, Goblin Slayer is truly emotional, and truly frightened, even willing to offer everything he has to get help. What he doesn’t realize, however, is that he’s not alone now. His newfound friends vow to help him, guild girl does her part to encourage the adventurers to help save the farm, and the adventurers, who have been seeing him in a more positive light lately, agree to join in his campaign.

Thanks to this, the other adventurers start to get a taste of what makes Goblin Slayer worthy of his Silver rank. It’s not his strength, speed, or superior gear, but his cunning mind and wealth of knowledge that he’s accumulated over the years. With a battle plan devised by Goblin Slayer himself, the adventurers wage war against the goblin horde, while the man of the hour goes to confront the Goblin Lord.

The real hero of Episode 12, though, isn’t Goblin Slayer, but Priestess. She’s grown immensely over the course of the series, both in maturity and in skill. Far from the frightful girl we saw in episode 1, she’s not confident and determined, and always speaks her mind, even chastising her superior adventurers when they’re dumb.

Unfortunately, the Anime has cut out a lot of the small character moments that we get in the Light Novels, so her growth seems to have been happening a lot off-screen, rather than in front of us, which is a real shame. I really love Priestess, and I wish the Anime had done a better job with her character, because she deserves it.

Overall, though, I had a good time with Goblin Slayer. The action was good, there were some light moments and some dark moments, and quite a few issues… but I enjoyed it nonetheless. While it wasn’t my favorite of the season, I’m still looking forward to a second season as well. Anyways, what did you guys think of Goblin Slayer? Loved it? Hated it? Let me know down in the comments! Thanks everyone for reading, and i’ll see you all in the next post.

I really loved Goblin Slayer. I was happy that it didn’t end on a sour note, but an uplifting one. The Priestess really did change from the first episode to the last one. I’m looking forward to the 2nd season.
