Apologies for the lateness of this post, Thanksgiving week has been pretty busy, and I’ve been struggling to find time to write. That said, goodness, was this a good episode. I mean, seriously, this may have been the best episode of the show yet!!
I’ve been asking for more character development, and while last episode delivered, this one hit even harder! We get more out of Ai and Junko, and their individual goals and personalities, not to mention a pretty freaking awesome concert scene. I mean really, this episode was seriously good.
Digging into the differences between modern and older-style idols, the conflict of interests and what makes them each unique was really interesting. I really enjoyed how everything was resolved as well. You don’t have to force yourself to be someone you’re not, in order to fit in. Just do what suits you best, and keep working. Not only was it the message that Junko needed to hear, but a message a lot of people can relate to.
The concert scene near the end was amazing, as well. Ai was, pretty rightfully, afraid of the lightning, given how she died. The way that she and Junko support and complement each other, working to overcome their difficulties, was great, and the concert turned out really nicely as well.
Of course, the old phrase “lightning never strikes twice” is a big ol’ lie, and the whole group is struck by lightning. Thankfully, since they’re zombies, they can’t die, and just absorb the electricity to put on an even more spectacular show than the first one… literally glowing.
My one complaint about this episode is, they’re clearly capable of doing 2-D animated concerts, as evidenced by Iron Frill’s performance. Why can’t we get a 2-D concert out of Franchouchou as well? The 3-D didn’t look nearly as bad in this episode as it has before, though, and it’s a minor complaint in the face of all that this show does right.
I’m seriously loving this show, and I hope you all are loving it as well. I think it’s doing a really good job giving us some amazing comedy along with a fresh story and character I actually care about. Anyways, I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving! Thanks for reading, and i’ll see you all in the next post!
