Well, another week, and another episode of Goblin Slayer down. I am still enjoying the show, but out of the three shows i’m reviewing this season, it might actually be the weakest of the bunch. And it makes me really sad to say that, because the main criticism I have for the show is actually of something that I really enjoyed during the Light Novels… and it all comes down to Character.

I really don’t think that Goblin Slayer is doing justice to its cast. I understand that removing pieces to focus on certain things is an integral part of translating a LN into an Anime… but it seems like a lot of the quirky and fun interactions and character growth that I remember from the novels just isn’t present. The most we really get is elf insulting dwarf, and priestess telling Goblin Slayer that he’s a numbskull. Which, really, works fine for a standard Fantasy show, but it’s just making me a little sad, knowing what could have been.
All that being said, the show still looks great. The visuals are absolutely top-notch, the action is thrilling and the darkness is just perfect for the story while still maintaining some lighthearted moments in between. The OP is also probably my favorite OP of this season, I really like it. Apart from my criticisms, it’s honestly still a really enjoyable show for me, and I just wanna keep watching to see more of the amazing action.

My one plea is, please, please let there be more character moments. It really helps break up the story and let us get to know our core cast better, and I personally feel that well-built characters generally will make or break a series. But that’s about all I have to say this week. I guess my disappointment over the lack of character development is kinda bumming me out… anyways, thank you all very much for reading, and I hope to see you all in the next post!
