Chio’s School Road continues to be one of the most entertaining shows of the season in episode 2 and episode 3. The comedic take on slice-of-life is such a fresh idea, giving us Chio and her friends’ misadventures on their way to school, while omitting their time spent actually at school pretty much completely.

Episode 2 has Chio meeting a local biker gang leader, named Ando. In a chaotic turn of events, she accidentally knocks him unconscious, and has to cluff her way out of the situation. Luckily for her, she seems to have multiclassed into Bard, so her charisma and deception skills have a lot of points in them. Later on, Chio and her friend Manana run into Yuki, who is getting confessed to by a boy, which sparks a friendly rivalry of hilarity between Chio and Manana.
Episode 3 was the funniest episode yet, though. Chio has to deal with the situation she created with Ando, as he tries to quit his biker gang. She manages to explain things to him, and they become accomplices in an ever more ridiculous farce. AFterwards, the girls get to learn the complexities of Kabbadi from Madoka Kushitori, and Chio displays once again how she can, at times, be ridiculously high-functioning.

I think Chio is secretly a genius, a savant, even. Somehow, she has the ability to accomplish whatever she sets her mind to with relative ease. We’ve gotten hints about her intelligence, as well as her sheer athletic ability, but the Kabbadi episode really cemented just how insane her athletic abilities really are.
A lot of the comedy in this show, I feel, stems from how Chio is able to overcome simple dilemmas with horrendously over complicated solutions. It’s much less chaotic than some of the other comedies this season as well, preferring to express that comedy through sharp, dynamic storytelling taken to extremes, rather than just chaos, as we see in Asobi Asobase and Jashin-chan Dropkick.

I’m really enjoying Chio’s School Road so far. I know some people are having a hard time with it, because it’s a bit different from other shows and just doesn’t suit their tastes, but I think it’s hilarious and very fun. How are you guys enjoying Chio and her antics so far? Let me know down in the comments, and i’ll see you all in the next post!
