Fall 2017 Rundown: Week 9

I’m sorry. I’m truly, utterly, totally sorry, you guys. I swore i’d be better, that i’d get more done… but then stuff happened. A friend came visiting from overseas and is crashing at my house, and that along with other stuff, basically ate all my free time. I even gave up some sleep to watch what I did, but…

I’m sorry.

Best of the Best:

Land of the Lustrous (Episode 10): Good heavens, and holy mother of gemstones, this episode was fantastic. The art was beautiful, as always, but the usage of the smooth animation of the show, combined with creative use of camera angles, created a brilliant blend of cinematography that made this possibly the best episode yet.

RWBY Season 5 (Episode 9): I’m so happy with the way this show is evolving, how the characters are growing, and where the story is headed. There are so many mysteries yet to be uncovered, but we can hope for the best, right?

Girls’ Last Tour (Episode 9)

Ancient Magus’ Bride (Episode 10): Backstory for Elias? Chibi Elias??? The story here is getting complex, in a very beautiful way. I hope we don’t have a heartbreaking ending, though I don’t know how many episodes are projected for this show. I hope more than 12.

A Very Nice Watch:

Kino’s Journey (Episode 8)

Inuyashiki Last Hero (Episode 4)

Recovery of an MMO Junkie (Episode 10): Excuse me… WHY IS IT OVER? The final episode of MMO Junkie was a great one, but only 10 episodes? I need more! It all seemed to be over so quickly, like the ending was done in a rush. Very unfortunate as I really enjoyed the show.

BLEND-S (Episode 9): BLEND-S is one of those shows that just never fails to make me laugh. I adore it, I adore the wonderfully quirky characters, and every episode is just new, fresh, and fun to an extreme degree.

These are OK, I guess:

Anime-Gataris (Episode 6)

UQ Holder (Episode 3)

A Sister’s All You Need (Episode 5)

Konohana Kitan (Episode 4)

Juni Taisen Zodiac War (Episode 10): I liked the warrior of the Tiger. It’s a shame to see her go, especially in such a pathetic fashion. We’ve had 2 full episodes of backstory for her, now, so it’s a shame she’s gone so suddenly and quickly.

Black Clover (Episode 10): It’s a mess of a show, honestly. It started as a mess, and it’s still a mess. However, we don’t really have any long-running battle shonen shows right now, especially ones with a relatively easy entry point, and Black Clover is doing a good job of filling those shoes, for the moment.

Dropped Shows:

TwoCar (Episode 3)

Dies Irae (Episode 3)

My Girlfriend is a Shobitch (Episode 3)

King’s Game (Episode 4)

Sengoku Night Blood (Episode 1)

Urahara (Episode 3)

Evil or Live (Episode 3)

  1. Land of the Lustrous was fantastic this week.
The more I think about Black Clover the more I think it really is for people who have never tried a long running shonen before. For anyone who has watched any other title of this nature, it is just going to look bad by comparison, but the show actually remains pretty functional as a show so without the comparisons, while it might not be the best thing ever it is probably a lot more enjoyable.

      1. As much as I love it, I’m under the impression it will end before we get a satisfactory explanation of the world. Hopefully it gets a second season because with so much still unexplained it definitely needs one.
