Hey everyone, welcome back to the 100 Day Anime Challenge. Guys, we are HALFWAY. I repeat, the challenge is halfway over. I hope everyone has been enjoying this so far, and i’m excited for today’s question: What is your Favorite Work from Studio Ghibli? Ghibli has always had amazing work, and i’ve been watching their movies since I was a child. From the magical world of Spirited away to the heartwarming adventures in Castle in the Sky, it’s truly a tough choice to pick only the top.
One Ghibli film, however, has always stuck in my mind, more than any other. The darker tones that it holds to speak right to my sense of aesthetics, and i’ve always had a soft spot in my heart for it. Princess Mononoke is a masterpiece of a work, and while Spirited Away might be, objectively, the best out of the franchise, I just… like this one better.
The story is a grim one, yet a true one. Humanity pushes aside the old ways, killing the ancient spirits and gods in their never ending quest for power. Burning forests, digging up mountains, the subtle social commentary is just fantastic. And with a cast of great characters, and especially the dynamic between San and Ashitaka, the show is an incredible watch, a rollercoaster of emotions that leaves you gasping for breath.
Despite being released in 1997, Princess Mononoke still looks absolutely beautiful; it has aged incredibly well. If you haven’t seen anything from Ghibli, this might be a good movie to start with. And for those of you who have seen lots of Ghibli, which one is your favorite? Let me know down in the comments, and I hope to see everyone again tomorrow as we embark on the second half of this challenge!
