Day 11 of this challenge asks what is my favorite Mecha anime, and oooh boy, do I love Mecha shows. Nothing screams awesome more than giant robots duking it out with each other. That being said, there are some Mecha shows that are undisputedly fantastic, and some that are just mediocre at best. This is actually a very easy question for me to answer, so we’ll jump right in.
I’ve already mentioned Gundam SEED once, so unfortunately i’m going to leave it to the side. With Gundam SEED gone, I have to say my favorite Mecha anime is Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron Blooded Orphans. IBO is an amazing show in so many ways. Not only does it have incredible animation, art, music, and just about everything else, but it also embodies what makes Gundam such a great franchise, but featuring modern, up-to-date art and some pristine 3DCG as well.
Following a group called Tekkadan, Iron Blooded Orphans has some fantastic political commentary, touching on a variety of topics such as slavery, drugs, child soldiers, politics, mercantilism, and, of course, war. With a brilliant cast of characters, a great story line, some incredible action scenes, and spectacular animation, Iron Blooded Orphans is, for me, everything I loved about the first Anime I ever watched, brought into the modern age. If you haven’t seen it yet, please add it to your watch list. It’s a great watch.
Well, there you have it, my favorite Mecha show ever. I’ll give honorable mentions to Captain Earth and Infinite Stratos, but none of them even come close to my love for the Gundams. How many of you guys out there like Mecha shows, and what is your favorite one? Please let me know in the comments, and I hope i’ll see you back tomorrow as well, for more of the 100 Day Anime Challenge!
