If you enjoy shows with a similar vibe to Studio Ghibli, you’ll most likely enjoy Made in Abyss. On a remote island, there is an enormous pit with a diameter of over 1,000 meters, and a depth that has never been measured. Inside this pit, there are strange and powerful monsters, as well as thousands of relics of a civilization long past. Many adventurers have gathered and built a city around the pit, now named the Abyss. However, because the Abyss is such a dangerous place, many adventurers die, and leave their children behind.
Riko is a girl living in an orphanage outside of the Abyss. Children of the orphanage are raised and trained to be able to go down and collect relics from the Abyss, to make money to support the orphanage. One day, as Riko and her friend are gathering relics from the Abyss, they are attacked by a massive creature, but are saved by a mysterious boy who appears to be a robot.
I was a bit skeptical at first, but I actually greatly enjoyed this first episode of Made in Abyss. It feels and looks a lot like a Studio Ghibli film, which I adore. It seems like the story will be fun and interesting, following a group of lively children, with their ambitions and adventures.
Made in Abyss is airing on Thursdays, and can be watched on Anime Strike.
I’ve heard much about this, haven’t seen it yet. Sounds interesting. Good post too!!.
